Saor Éire prisoners released a statement in May 1973 certifying their resignation from Saor Éire.

In May 1973 the prisoners in Portlaoise prison issued a statement, certifying their resignation from Saor Éire as they believe it had “ceased to play a progressive role. They also stated while Saor Eire had been formed to struggle against imperialism,” during the last two years owing to political weakness undesirable elements have been able to operate around its fringes and carry out actions, which had nothing in common with the stated objective of that organisation. They particularly made reference to the “cloud of mystery which still hung over the murder of “sincere and dedicated revolutionary” Peter Graham. The Saor Éire prisoners in the Curragh resigned shortly afterwards.
